No

I am new to this, I've been using Hellonzb a little with a free account XS Usenet on port 119, no SSL. No problems up to 1.3.5 but sibce 1.4.0.1 I am getting a lot of "not connect to server".

Actually, and this is what puzzles more, I was able to use it to get some nzb files parts, but for many others (e.g. nzb files from @itanews) it doesn't work at all.

If I revert to earlier versions up to 1.3.5 HelloNzb connects perfectly also with nzb files from @itanews.

Here is part of my debug log:

DEBUG: Default NIO client: Initialised.
DEBUG: Default NIO client: Starting main loop ...
DEBUG: Creating new channel #1
DEBUG: 1| > Connecting to server 'free.xsusenet.com/82.197.196.29' on port 119
DEBUG: Downloading next segment of file: xxxx.part1.rar
DEBUG: 1| > AUTHINFO USER xxxxxxxxxxx
DEBUG: 1| > AUTHINFO PASS yyyyyyyy
DEBUG: 1| > BODY 1402152140$16734$11518$xxx@itanews
DEBUG: Creating new channel #2
DEBUG: 1| > AUTHINFO USER xxxxxxxxxxx
DEBUG: 1| > AUTHINFO PASS yyyyyyyy
DEBUG: 1| > BODY 1402152140$16734$11518$xxx@itanews
DEBUG: Creating new channel #3
DEBUG: 1| > AUTHINFO USER xxxxxxxxxxx
DEBUG: 1| > AUTHINFO PASS yyyyyyyy
DEBUG: 1| > BODY 1402152140$16734$11518$xxx@itanews

(I only substituted actual user, password and nzb details)

And it keeps creating new channels, a new one about each 10 seconds.

Upgrade to 1.4.1 didn't improve things.

I hope I've supplied enough relevant details to help analysis

This is really strange, in particular since you say you can download some parts of the NZB files. Do you see any exceptions or error messages in the log?

    Sorry for the late comeback.

As you can see a .nfo text file was properly download, while the following part1.rar archive file couldn't be downloaded, so I stopped the process.

    Hope this may help

I forgot to mention that I also tried with other similarly structured files: only a short initial .nfo text file could be download but never a part1.rar o part2.rar piece

Can you please send me an NZB file where this happens?

Ok, I tried to download your NZB file to see what happens. And it turned out this NZB file (or better: the file segements it refers to) does not exist on the Usenet server (I tried two different providers).

So, I assume this is also the reason for your issue.

I wonder however, when you leave the program running for a few seconds, don't you get any error message popup from HelloNzb, telling you about the missing files on the server?

    Hello Matthias,

first of all sorry for the late comeback.

The last comment written by Anonymous (2014-07-09) was NOT written by me...

Anyway I don't think file unavailability is the culprit as the provided nzb file came down with 1.3.5 but not with 1.4 or 1.4.1

Also I didn't get any message about missing files (as they came down with 1.3.5)

Just let me know if I can be of further help.

    TZM

Does the problem still exist? If so let's try the following: I have registered a free account with your Usenet provider (xsusenet.com), so that I check exactly the same setup that you have. Now when you encounter this problem again, please post the NZB file here again. Then I will try it with the same Usenet server/provider as you do.

I hope we can find the problem better that way...

    Hello Matthias,

once again sorry for reverting after long time.

Here is a file that comes down with 1.3.5 but not with newer versions up to 1.4.1.2

    Hope it may help

Are you sure you can download this NZB with 1.3.5? I just tried it with that version, but I cannot download it with that version either. The server says "430 No Such Article", which will not work with any version :)

It came down even if with CRC errors in 3 parts.

Try out this other one (it's an alternate version with no CRC errors), which came down with 1.3.5 but not with 1.4.2

(By the way, I tried to download previous file twice, always getting CRC errors in the very same 3 parts. I anyway guess this actually depends on the file itself. Or am I wrong ?)

Sorry, I meant it didn't come down with version 1.4.1.2

Ok, so I tried it with your last NZB file and HelloNzb version 1.4.1.2. It took a while, since I only have a free account at the Usenet provider you mentioned (XS Usenet), but eventually everything came down. Also the RAR files have been extracted and I got the MKV file in the RAR_EXTRACT folder.

So frankly unfortunately I don't know what's wrong on your end. Could it be related to the preferences you have set in the HelloNzb options, download folder or so? What exactly is the issue?

    Hello Matthias,

once again thanks for your time !

After retrying to get down the file using 1.4.1.2, with unfortunately same negative result, I'm now going to try to be more helpful by sending you a few pictures of what I see and about my preferences.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards

Hmm... One important question: Is the download broken for any single NZB file you try, or does it work for at least some of them?

    Hello Matthias,

busy period, sorry but I had very little time to make experiments.

I have now tested some music files and actually they came down with 1.4.1.2 but so far no nzb containing italian telefilm episodes. They come down only with 1.3.5

Could it somehow depend on where are they stored or perhaps on some DNS setting ?

I really don't know what to think.

I remain at your disposal on the matter

    Best regards

What error message or log messages do you get in 1.4.1.2 when you try to download such an NZB? Can you please send me an example NZB via email?

    Hello Matthias,

here attached you'll find a nzb file related to a telefilm episode in italian that won't come down with version 1.4.1.2, as you can see from the also attached log file.

It only comes down the .nfo included in it; by the way the .nfo files always come down but only those (at least for files related to itanews from what I could see)

The telefilm comes instead down perfectly if I use version 1.3.5 (see a part of the logfile here attached).

I don't know how to help you more, but I remain at your disposal.

    Best regards

    TZM

So I just tried to download your NZB file with latest HelloNzb and it came done fine, no errors whatsoever. Thus, since the program works fine, I assume it could be a configuration issue on your side.

Can you please double-check the configuration of HelloNzb on your machine, and compare the settings in both program versions? Do you spot any difference?
