Write status/notification file in Comma Separated
Variable format for import into DB. Useful for systems
that are available by dialup only.... Collect file
periodically and import into central DB.
I worry that merging MDBs might need a lot of error checking
to keep the central DB sane. I have worked with many
products that try to split and merge a database and all end
up insane when something stupid happens. I had a user who
changed his timezone to whatever time zone he is traveling
in. That caused the timestamps of events on his cheezy
calendar app to be out of order, and then they got merged in
the wrong order into the central DB. His flight to a
meeting took off AFTER the meeting had already started, and
his billable time was completely messed up in the central
DB. I grant you that timestamp problems are easy to solve.
GOOD apps use GMT for all timestamps, regardless of the
timezone you're in, and the GUI converts each timestamp to
your current timezone. But the point is that merging any
data after being offline is often a problem.
Maybe I misunderstand what you are tryign to do, though.
Can you tell us what kinds of problems you have with your
roaming users that you want HM to fix? When I think about
what HM is, I think, "to monitor the system and respond in
real-time to problems." If a client is disconnected, and
ran out of disk space 3 days ago, do you really care when it
reconnects if the disk is not full anymore? The user
probably went to china and bought 500 pirate CDs for $50 and
cached them in media player because he didn't think he could
get them through customs. :)
For some reason I have the urge to type my password and
confidential information, now...

Instead of use csv, we'll implement MS Access logging, mdb
tables can be imported into MS SQL.
