5V won't help you. The stix will still run on 3.3V on the interface and I = don't know if the PXA is 5V tolerent on the input pins. I use a 74LVT244 = running on 3.3 V. Input and output looks fantastic on a scope so the only = thing I need is that the program should work. If I try to send the reset command continuesly (something heavy on the = Enter key) it's quite easy to power up the stix in a mode where it draws = less current than if I just turn the power on. After that status will say = "in DEBUG" and I can read "regs" without any errors. If I try to to reset = I will get the message "reset_and_halt: command timeout (24 : 1E)". If I = try to send the "WORD 0x48000008 =3D 0x0000A5BB" I will get the message = "Write large : internal error 40 : 15)". I don't have any idea of what is going wrong and I give up for the moment = and hope you or someone else who has a stix ala doorstop will have better = luck than I. We're using whatever the version is that was on the download site about=20= 2 days ago when I re-imaged the JTAG debugging machine we have. =46rom=20= memory it was 2.3.2 or 2.3.3, probably the former if that's what you've=20= got. Thanks for the notes on the voltage. None of the local electronics shops around here have any 74LVT244 chips as I called around for that part today, so I'll have to order it over the net. I'm busy soldering up my jtag board now, I put pull ups on all pins with this selectable on the gumstix side. I still have to make a modified harness for my gumstix as there's something wrong with my waysmall at the moment (It echos all input double, I think that the pins maybe short now. Repeated connection and deconnection maybe have affected the registration. But I couldn't see that happening). Probably tomorrow I'll be able to see if I can get that stick working. Well... if I can locate a source for 74LV244 within driving distance, which is doubtful. Gordon/Craig, are you able to verify if the jtag inputs on the gumstix (Old) are 5V tolerant? - Kim |

I managed to desolder my 74HC244 without heating it up too much I think. So that completes my new jtag cable. Tomorrow I should be in a position to see if I can recover this gumstix with better luck than Benny was having. This is the circuit found here: http://home.comcast.net/~staskh/projects/tools/ Except I'm added extra pull-ups, jumper selectable on the gumstix side. And a selectable reset line, as the article mentioned that the reset line gave some problems sometimes. And I've made it have both the 14 pin and 20 pin outputs. I must say, those obsolete old computers are a great source of parts. Like the parallel cable there, which came from an old 386 machine. - Kim |

Actually, are the uart ports 4V tolerant then? Someone else mentioned that as well, so I powered the chips on my experimental board with 3.3v. - Kim |

Both of those errors happen for me if the wiggler's not properly connected to the gumstix -- generally with the push-down connector I use if I shift the weight on the thing a little and some of the contacts slide off the touch-down pad on the 'stix.
