When playing back MPEG (.mpg) or WMV files with MPC,
they play OK for the first four seconds and then begin
to pause every 1/2 second. The files play back
perfectly in Windows Media Player.
Also, when playing AVIs, particularly when seeking,
audio and video get out of sync.
This problem has only occoured recently, and I have not
upgraded MPC during that time. I have, however, now
tried the latest version in an attempt to fix it.
My guess is that it started after the last round of
updates from Microsoft.
System:
Athlon 4200+ X2 dual core
2GB DDR RAM
Windows XP Pro SP2 + all updates
Latest nForce, GeForce 7800GT and A64 X2 drivers installed
The problem only seems to affect MPC, no other software
has problems (including games). Setting affinity to one
CPU does not cure the problem.
Please email me if you need a small (500k) test WMV
file, however all files seems to be affected including
ones that used to play perfectly.

What codecs are loaded when you play a media file?
You can check them in Play/Filters/ menu item.
You can try to revert back to earlier MPC versions (one by
one). Maybe it will turn out that version 6490 has some
issues. Maybe not.
What renderer type do you use in MPC? VMR7/9, Haali's renderer?
Do you use the internal "mpeg-2 video" transform filter?
Do you checked in the Use the "WM ASF reader..." setting in
Options.../Tweaks/ tab?
Do you use Win XP 64 bit edition?
