Sometimes, it's not clear in which cases yet, but it happened at least 5 times on my computer over a period of ~2 months, after I close mplayerc.exe it still remains in the list of active processes (though this is not apparent at first because I do not usually run Task Manager all the time). Also the following happens:
1) csrss.exe (Windows system process) takes about 20-30% of CPU time (on a P4 1.6)
2) mplayerc.exe takes everything that remains from csrss.exe and all other processes.
3) Other programs are generally responsive, except for games that usually simply refuse to start (apparently because there is no CPU time left for them) - they just display loading screen or black screen, etc. (depending on the game). Other situations may cause me to notice the problem too.

after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and launching Task Manager, it sometimes is impossible to use it - it displays, but they doesn't update, mouse doesn't move, keyboard doesn't work (other than Ctrl+Alt+Del). When it is possible to use Task Manager (after trying to Log Off or sometimes it just works), it becomes obvious that:
1) mplayerc.exe and csrss.exe consume the CPU time
2) mplayerc.exe cannot be killed with "Access is denied" error. No third-party process killer can kill it either (I tried at least 4 or 5).
3) the priority of mplayerc.exe can be changed. When changed to Low, it becomes possible to use the computer almost normally.

The computer is a P4 1.6 with 512Mb RAM. The OS is Windows 2000 Pro. There are no viruses, trojans, spyware, etc. There are no similar problems with other applications. The csrss.exe file is a standard normal file, same as in the fresh installation of Win2k. Mplayerc.exe also seems to be ok (765952 bytes, not the latest version, perhaps).
