Gnotime 2.2.3 compiles fine on fedora core 5 but crashes instantly. The error message in console is:
3847: assertion failed "!_dbus_transport_get_is_connected (connection->transport)" file "dbus-connection.c" line 1797 function _dbus_connection_last_unref
I am using:
Linux pc67247005 2.6.20-1.2320.fc5smp #1 SMP Tue Jun 12 19:40:16 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Attached you may also see the config.log
When I will have time I will give it a try on gentoo.

Do you have the dbus-daemon running?
What's your version of DBUS?
Can you try gnotime on a more recent
Fedora version? Fedora 5 is a bit old, isn't it?

Answering some of my own questions:
> Do you have the dbus-daemon running?
Yes. GnoTime fails with dbus-daemon running.
> What's your version of DBus?
Fedora core 5 has version 0.62 of DBus. GnoTime
have been tested and is known to work with DBus
version 1.1.1 (current version in Debian Sid).
Should we support pre-1.0 versions of DBus?
I really think we should not. I'll probably
change the build scripts to build without DBus
support if it's not able to find DBus >= 1.0.

Thank you.
In the meantime I have switched completely to Gentoo, and the 2.2.3 version works flawlessly (no crash yet).
