When running GnoTime remotely on a non-XFree86 display,
I got the message
[erahege@kia8205 ~]$ gnotime
Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display
"ws2621.rnd.ki.sw.ericsson.se:0.0".
(in this example, kia8205 runs Linux RedHat 9 and
ws2621 runs SunOS 5.8)
GnoTime still works, but there is very much network
communication, and the display flashes a lot, and gets
less responsive.
Program version:
gnotime-2.1.5-1.redhat-i386.rpm
tried X servers:
ViewNow (a PC program)
Sun Solaris SunOS 5.8 (whatever comes standard with
that OS)
Logged In: YES

I'm going to mark this as a 'won't fix' issue, since I can't fix it.
The 'render' extension is not something that gnotime
knowingly uses; I'm guessing that either gnome or gtk
requires this extension. This may even have something to
do with that particular version of redhat and or that version
of the xlibs ... I don't know how to tell gnome/gtk
to not use it, and there's not really anything gnotime can do
about it.
