#1 loads of crashes

I just built gsubedit-0.4pre1 on my gentoo box with the
ebuild I've got from:

It compiles and starts, but it crashes at almost every
action - when opening preferences, when displacing...
The only things that work are open and save (so far I
tested srt files only).

In the console I get a bunch of:
Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkcombo.c: line 849
(gtk_combo_set_popdown_strings): assertion `strings !=
NULL' failed.
messages.

Any ideas?

My system:
Gentoo 1.2
gtk+-1.2.10
gcc-2.95.3
