Would be nice to have Gruntspud spawn a command (or a
choice of specific commands) to edit. files E.g.,

command <filename.ext>

This would serve for vi, Emacs, Notepad (gack!), Word
(shudder), edlin (laughter), TextPad, UltraEdit, etc.

If you mean what i think you mean, you can already do this.
Look in Preferences -> UI -> File Types.

Here you can specify file patterns (wilcards are acceptable
- *.txt for example) and how the file should be opened.
There are a number of options, one of them being 'Open using
application'. Browse for the program you want and add the
pattern.
