Controlling slf4j root log level stops the worker's statistics log

I am using the grinder to load test a java client library which uses SLF4J. To quieten the output on the worker, I have added the following line to the script.
from org.slf4j import LoggerFactory
from org.ch.qos.logback.classic import LEvel
LoggerFactory.getLogger("root").setLevel(Level.ERROR)
This works, except that the worker's data-file with the statistics is empty too.
How can control the log level for the application, while maintaining the statistics data file?
The statistics uses specific logger names: "worker.logonly", "worker", "data". Perhaps try getting these loggers from the logger factory and enabling them?
