The Search page feels like a vertical form. In usability tests, users would fill out search criteria, moving down the page, and then click the binocular icon above the Search map thinking that would submit their form. The locator button is confusing in general, as there is no guidance that the user should type something there, why, or what to type. Design of the search form – and how the locator is presented – should be assessed.
I agree. Furthermore there should be an evidence that some additional options are set, to avoid a search failure due to some option not cleared.
Regarding the search map, it would be useful a listbox of "places" (loaded from a user defined xml with names and extents) that can be used to select-and-zoom to the defined extent.
