Could a new molecular function GO term 'BMP receptor activity' be created please? The parent term would be GO:0038023 ‘signaling receptor activity’. The definition would be: 'Combining with a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family, and transmitting a signal to initiate a change in cell activity'. This term for example could be associated with BMP receptors or with HJV/HFE2 (Q6ZVN8) with the qualifier 'contributes_to' (Babitt et al., 2006, PMID: 16604073 – although they used mouse protein).
Many thanks,
Klaus

Hi David
please add Milestone BHF-UCL to this record as well as dbxrefs: GOC:BHF-UCL, GOC:kom
Thanks
Ruth
Hi David
Klaus needs this term to complete annotations for his MSc project which is due to be submitted in early August. So we need this term by the end of the month. Would you like me to ask Rebecca to look at this one?
Also I think the parent terms would be
Part_of parent: GO:0030509 BMP signaling pathway
is_a parent: GO:0004675 transmembrane receptor protein serine/threonine kinase activity
as GO:0070696 transmembrane receptor protein serine/threonine kinase binding is the parent term to GO:0070700 BMP receptor binding
Thanks
Ruth
Hi Ruth,
I'm back working on SourceForge tickets on Monday. I'll put it on the top of my list for edits next week. Sorry for the delay.
David
Added as requested (Checked with Becky as was worried that GO had previously discouraged ligand specific terms. Apparently fine.).
label "BMP receptor activity"@en
definition "Combining with a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family, and transmitting a signal across the plasma membrane to initiate a change in cell activity."
'part of' some 'BMP signaling pathway'
'transmembrane receptor protein serine/threonine kinase activity'
