I think it would be nice to have an "open folder" button in the tool bar.

For example, I'm editing a tex file, I run pdflatex which generate the pdf and I want to check this pdf. I could then click on this button which would open nautilus on the folder of the current file and check my pdf :-)

A simple button that does:
$nautilus folder/of/the/current/file

I personally think this is quite unrelated to Geany and so show not be included. Anyway, this can be simply realised as a plugin. So, if anyone wants to write a small plugin to provide this functionality, feel free to do so.
This could be also a part of the Addons plugin which is meant to collect such small things which are not worth creating an own plugin for. It just needs someone to write the code.

I personally think this is as much related to Geany than the "Color Chooser" button.
But then again, whether it is included in Geany itself or part of a plugin, I do not mind.

4 and a half years later, this hasn't gain much traction.
but I think this could be a feature supported by the window manager.

if the application only communicates to the window manager (this file is open)
the window manager can easily add an icon next to the name of the file in the title bar and the icon would have actions, like a regular file system icon.

this idea is actually not mine, that's how it works on OSX.

you can right click the icon to get a menu of each parent folder, quickly seeing the file location and having the possibility to navigate to any parent folder.

and you can drag the icon to a different app or a different location.

    anyway... good luck
