#28 shortcuts for switching tabs

As far as I can tell, there's no shortcut for quickly
switching tabs (which is, imo, extremely important when
you have no mouse). Ideally it would be great if the
shortcuts were consistent with Firefox, so that Alt-1
is the first tab, Alt-2 the second, and so on.

Thanks.

Shortcuts for switching(i.e. switch to the right one, to the
left one) exist. Please have a look at the documentation or
in the preferences dialog on the keybindings tab look for
"Switch to left document" and "Switch to right document".

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I mean a way to switch directly to a
specified tab. Yes you can switch to the left or right tab,
but that's extremely inefficient and cumbersome if you need
to switch between the 1st and 6th tab, back and forth. And I
realize you can re-position the tabs next to each other, but
then I may want to switch between two others. It would
    become a juggling act.

It seems to me, a simple Alt-# keybinding would be extremely
convenient for many users. Surely I'm not the only one that
    is used to firefox's convention.

I think this would be useful. I think there's no need to
make Alt-# keybindings configurable - we could use Alt-1 to
Alt-9 for the first 9 tabs and Alt-0 for the last tab opened.

Just implemented this in SVN r1021.

Thanks, it works great! My only suggestion would be to allow Alt-0 to toggle back and forth repeatedly (currently you can press it to go to the last tab, but if you press it again, it doesn't go back to the tab you were just at).

I wasn't clear in my earlier comment - the Alt-0 is to select the rightmost tab, because Alt-1-9 selects the leftmost 9 tabs, and I thought it would be useful to be able to jump to the other end of the notebook.

I think a separate keybinding for switching to the previously selected tab would be useful, so I'll leave this request open.

Current SVN now has a keybinding (Ctrl-tab) to switch to the previously selected tab; closing this request.
