#1 Date properties aren't validated

There is not check if the entered string is a valid date.
You just get a ParseException on the server.

And more, it should be OK to leave a date field empty.
Currently, an empty date field causes an exception as well.
Though it's ignored, this situation should be handled more
gracefully :-)
