I am using FreeTTS with a Java desktop client that communicates with a Java Servlet that wraps around Program D, an Open Source Java AIML chatbot implementation: http://croftsoft.com/library/software/client/
I am going to try to get it to work with a Java applet client where the FreeTTS files are pre-installed so that the applet remains small. If anyone has experience with this, please let me know.

I went ahead and added the FreeTTS to the applet. I made the applet "sticky" so that it would cache the JAR files for subsequent use. It takes a long time to download the first time it is used but no time at all on subsequent uses.
