I'm currently running FreeNAS 0.69 Kwisatz Haderach (revision 4276), and have been seeing errors on the console and in the logs indicating disk errors. The drive is attached using a Highpoint RocketRAID RR1742 (using only for SATA, not using any RAID functions). HPTRR currently autoloads at boot. Errors occur during reads/writes. The hard drive is new and has been tested with diagnostics (full sector by sector read tests etc.) without errors. I think the problem may actually be due to a bug reported with the HPTRR module for the Highpoint RocketRAIDs included in the FreeBSD 6.3+ kernel (see link: http://www.jp.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=kern/120615). I realize it's been reported as a FreeBSD bug, but FreeNAS is probably affected also since it's based on it.
I tried unloading HPTRR (kldunload hptrr) in order to load rr174x-6.1.ko instead, but receive No Such File or Directory error message (I'm not sure how to do this, so I'm probably doing something wrong). When attempting to kldload rr174x-6.1.ko, I receive the error rr174x: no controller detected. I'm guessing this is because hptrr is already loaded for this controller.
Can a fixed version of HPTRR be added to FreeNAS, or possibly remove it or disable it from autoloading to allow loading a different driver? I'm not exactly sure how to disable it to prevent it from autoloading.
Seems there is no patch available for FreeBSD 6.x (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=120615), so i can't do anything here. But as mentioned in the PR FreeBSD 7 does not have the problem. Maybe you should update to FreeNAS 0.7.
Regards
