Hi there..
Is it possible to write a freedos bootrecords (i.e make
a specific partition freedos bootable) from linux. I
know it's possible with sys.com and dosemu. But isn't
there a simpler solution....i need for a linux-bootdisk
that creates bootable freedos partitions and as you can
think i don't have that much free space on the disk
thanx in advance

To get started, please use:
http://www.coli.uni-sb.
de/~eric/stuff/soft/specials/sys-freedos-linux.zip
This analyzes the given device or disk image to
find out partition type and properties, and adds
a FreeDOS boot sector to it. You need Perl and
NASM to run this tool. For partitions formatted
with mkdosfs, you may have to manually fix the
"hidden sectors" (absolute partition location)
and disk geometry data stored in the boot sector,
because this is not available to mkdosfs and
therefore not initialized properly.
Please let me know when you have improved my
tool in some way. For diskettes and USB storage
(IF you boot it in "forced FDD" mode), you do
not usually have to adjust hidden sector count
or geometry info anyway.
