The writing performance of FreeDOS kernel is bad compared to raw writing performance as well as file writing performance of other kernels.

This has been discussed of the EDR-DOS forum 2 years ago, EDR-DOS got a small improvement then.

The slow down factor depends from HD model, BIOS, FAT subversion, cluster size, ... and can be up to 5 (!!!) (FAT28, small clusters).

The reasons aren't unknown, it's the bad FAT design, supported by small memory.
