I'm planning to make us of the fez_author and fez_org tables. I think I've figured how to do so within your framework, but I am curious about a few of the table fields. Specifically, what is the difference between
aut_title
aut_function
aut_position
and what is the purpose of
aut_assessed?

You can safely ignore those fields if you like they are basically placeholder fields for data if in the future Fez adds a 'profile' for authors.
aut_title is like Dr, Mr, etc
aut_function for us is teaching, research etc
aut_position is their job title
aut_assessed was for whether the author is assessed in our research exercises but we are using auo_assessed now instead. If auo_assessed is true then then author will show up in author_selector drop down lists for objects.
Cheers,
Christiaan
