java for Ubuntu total beginners would be a interesting video to try to use a very common user desktop Linux distribution and install the necessary java things to run the tutorials I am already having problems with scrapbook.

Hi Joshua. Go to Help / Preferences / Java / Installed JRE's and check your Java version. On my Ubuntu system it says "java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.11". That would be the first thing to check. You can get the Sun JRE using the Ubuntu add packages. (I did it a while ago but don't remember much about the details.)
Another possibility is to download a distribution of Eclipse that includes the Java JRE. I think the EasyEclipse distribution has the JRE bundled in (at least it does for Windows). It's available at http://easyeclipse.org/site/distributions/index.html.
If you try this, use the Easy Eclipse Expert Java version 1.3.
Let me know how it goes. Thanks. Mark

But I did remember selecting JRE for different things and it worked. I would have to run from a live cd system to install eclipse and go through the steps to document it or from a fresh ubuntu install.
