Well, I feel like I got a bit done today, though it will be hard to convince anyone else of that. I took a lot of dead weight out of DROD.EXE and it's quite a lot simpler now. Things that don't work are just deleted or stubbed now. DROD.EXE should load to the title screen now. You can see the original Caravel logo that was replaced with a Webfoot logo after the publishing deal. Demo, load game, save game, instructions, order--all disabled. New and continue don't work. Settings has some errors. Quit works great! :-) I think I might have said that I had tasks shown in the tracker section of the DROD forge, but it is actually the tasks section. -Erik _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If anyone would like to help with DROD programming, there are some things that I could use help with right away. Take a look at the trackers on the DROD forge page, and see if there is anything there you'd like to work on. About CVS write access: If you've had at least a few years of programming experience and would like to use CVS to commit your changes directly to the repository, let me know, and I can add you to the project as a developer. This is the preferred way for people to get their changes into the project, but not suitable for everyone. If you're a newer developer or would rather not use CVS, you can make off-CVS changes and notify the drod-tech list. If the changes are large, it can become difficult to merge them into the tree, and you should discuss on drod-tech before starting. For the time being, the most efficient way to work is to either pick a task from the tracker, or propose your change to drod-tech before starting. I'm not much interested in adding new features just yet. Later the project should be a little more freer and open to initiative. -Erik _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? This one's a piece of cake, and maybe someone will want to give it a shot. Also, I am adding tasks to the task tracker on the DROD forge. You can browse them and see what's going on. http://sourceforge.net/pm/?group_id=10939 If any of the above looks doable and interesting, let me know! -Erik _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? ...at http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=7104&group_id=10939 or accessible from docs tab. This one gives an overview of the files and directories in the CVS repository. -Erik _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hello, this is Tyler Drodden! I am going to sit down today and come up with a list of things left to do for the next release (DROD 1.5). Or at the very least I am going to sit down today. We'll see what else I get done. The DROD forge is at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/drod. Things of interest found there: - DROD source has been released undel MPL 1.1 and is available from CVS server. You won't be able to do much with it right now, I'm afraid. Stuff to fix. I will try to hurry. - Document describing the Caravel DROD project and its goals. You may notice there are already some members of the SourceForge project. Clayton is the official webmaster for the project. I added Sam and Michael as developers, which gives them write access to the CVS repository, but for the near future I'm not encouraging ad-hoc changes to the project. There's too much source changing right now. Also, I plan to limit write access to the CVS repository to keep things from getting out of hand. Will explain more of that later. I don't want to make anyone feel like their help isn't wanted or that things are starting without them. Just give me a bit more time to get organized. If you'd like to be involved as a programmer, here's what I'd recommend: 1. Get a SourceForge account at www.sourceforge.net. 2. Get a CVS client working on your machine. You'll have read-only access to the CVS repository if you completed step 1. 3. Download the DROD source from the CVS repository and see if you can build the projects. You'll need version 3.4 of Metakit at www.equi4.com and also version uh...something of FMOD at www.fmod.org. I had a tough time getting started with CVS, and Michael helped me out with it. Feel free to ask questions here about CVS or getting things to build, if you have troubles. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
