I have tried out both Dr.DivX beta versions 7 & 8 and I
have the same problem in both.

The program opens in Expert Mode and each time I try
and open the preferences of Dr.DivX the program
freezes, with a program not responding message..

I am running the program on an AMD 3000+ with 512MB RAM
on Win XP. The program has not given me any problem as
far as encoding is concerned except a couple of times
when trying to convert .vob files

It looks like you have a broken DirectShow filter somewhere.
Make sure your AC3 & DTS decoders are set to 2.0 output
(stereo) to avoid loading unwanting filters.

You may also try to use filmerit to clean your DirectShow
registry.

Do you have a job running when you're trying to access the
preferences ? Does it work with beta 9 ? I wasn't able to
reproduce this with beta 7 or beta 9. When the job is
running the preferences are a bit slow to appear, that's all.
