Is there any detail on what the issue with >2 GB files ?
The relevant code for mime-type playlist evaluation is in /trunk/djmount/media_file.c
Ideally it should be implemented as a runtime option.
Edit: there is updated source at https://github.com/Boxee/djmount
which apparently fixes this.
I have raised Ubuntu bug 1423141 to have this source used for the ubuntu package.

files larger than 2 GB are mounted as .m3u . SamyGo project is using djmount and this limitation does not allow playing HD movies.
Is there any hope the handle them properly?
