sorry, its a problem with your computer for sure. try disabling your security software and installing a unzip program (you didnt answer all my questions about whether you had an unzip program)

im not computer illiterate i simply dont understand how it can appear to download and then when i open it, it says "application not found"

sounds right. do you have an unzipping program installed? who says "application not found?" post a screenshot.
this isnt a desmume problem, so we'll play PC diagnostics now.
when i open the file in windows explorer i get
c:\users\administrator\downloads\desmume-0.9.9-win32.zip

austin lane, click right mouse button on desmume-0.9.9-win32.zip icon in explorer and choose "Extract"
