I would like to compare source files by a web interface.
The currently used software "ViewCVS" can show the
comparison result in a XHTML-GUI if both files are
stored in the version repository. But I imagine a
application variant where one file can be uploaded or
just copied into a text field in a form to check for
changes.

A few validator tools provide a similar approach.

The description in the article

comes close to what I want.

That's interesting. I can imagine that this is possible -
but help me understand, what is your use-case exactly that
requires you to need this facility?

My focus is on the web interface because it might be easier
to access than to get a local installation of a
    configuration/version management system running.

So you you give a rough example of two URLs you might use
for retrieving the file contents you are comparing?

    Your configuration/version management system doesn't
necessarily need to be running on the same machine as
Codestriker - it can access remote repositories too.

Did you look at the "Wikipedia:Show changes" functionality?
