Right clicking on the desktop does not bring up the context menu, it just freezes with a little waiting circle icon.

It should bring up the view, sort by,..Nvidia control panel.

I am not sure how to debug this in order to figure out how to fix it.

This doesn't seem related to Classic Shell. It doesn't affect the right-click menu on the desktop at all.
Most likely you installed some software that adds a right-click menu extension and is taking a long time to open. Maybe it is trying to access the network or some other unavailable resource.

I will unistall the classic shell and check if the problem still occurs. In addition I can say that I upgraded from a previous windows 7 install and the nvidia control might need to reinstalled.

ok i reinstalled classic and nvdia control panel.

tested working fine, ok to close.
