data matrix might be extended beyound simple numeric types.

Excellent point... that's also one of the goals of the descriptor
API... we never really used it though.. and I did not think of that in
this context..

We could set up a AtomContainerArrayDescriptorValue... we'd also need
to set up a MixedTypeDescriptorValue, which basically is a sort of
DescriptorValueArrayDescriptorValue, if you know what I mean :)
