Hi Steve, nice job with buildung camctl! i have some issues with compiling camctl: - qmake isnt able to write a correct .xcodeproject-folder and Xcode crashes while opening. Thats of course not your failure... But i wanted to write it down :) A workaround for this issue is to open the project with Xcode3 and than reopen it with Xcode4. - lots of asserts-errors... include <assert.h> solves it but i cant believe thats the right way of solving this... - the header files from ImageCapture arent found. (eg. ImageCapture/ICAApplication.h) Do you have some ideas for me? Greetings from Germany, Helge |

Hello I have an E-420 dslr from Olympus that I'm looking for a camera controller for. Just so happens to be that Olympus has discontinued their camera control software, Studio, so I was wondering whether it was supported by Icarus. I couldn't find it on the list of supported cameras, but it didn't seem very complete. Regards Mads Frandsen |

Hi Steve, Using 10.6 and Xcode 3. A reboot solved ~90% of the errors which seem to be QT related so was probably just an install issue. The remaining dozen or so errors are all assert() calls. The error is something like Assert cannot be used in this context. I will double check this evening. Chris. |

Hi Steve, I cloned from git hub, and just now from your local repository also must have been a mistake on my behalf. However, after running qmake and trying to build in Xcode I am getting huge numbers of errors so the build is failing: 272 errors 15 warnings. Have I missed a step? cd camtool, qmake, open in xcode, build release. Chris. I tried to clone the source last night had the connection refused. Is the source still available? This is a great project and I am willing to try and help out by testing on my D50. I also have a few suggestions for UI and usability. Chris. |

I was using an old version of CamTool and I upgraded to the 20100324 version. The upgraded version announced that my Canon A80 did not support remote capture. This was news to me since the A80 has worked great for several years. Maybe it died the same time I upgraded to Snow Leopard. It does show up in the camera list. Best Gus 99camtool |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've heard from others about compatibility issues with Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, I do not have that version myself, so I'm a little bit in the dark here. (I do have a Nikon D80.) Also, are you using the latest released version, or have you tried building from the source in the git repository? I've reworked some things, so the current devel source may do better. Perhaps I should make a release when I get some free time. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've looked at it. I've done some research on what Snow Leopard does have, which is apparently a completely new Image Capture Core that is Cocoa based. I'm looking at a less drastic move to instead simply replace the known dropped function Carbon functions. I have started moving some of the lower level bits to Cocoa anyhow, but it looks like that will not help. I've looked at trying to use the new Image Capture Core API, but *that* doesn't seem to exist on 10.5. So for now, I'll stick with the ICA and try to work out the portability from that end. Eventually, I hope to just reduce everything down to PTP, rendering the ICA vs ICC issue moot and in the process making a Linux port more attainable. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Thanks for the info, now I know that it doesn't build on 10.6. That is, of course, very bad. One of the things I was hoping to do was rewrite some of the low-level bits to not use Carbon at all but use Cocoa buried in Objective-C++ methods. In the process, I guess we'll have to pay closer attention to those deprecation warnings. Do the prebuilt binaries work on 10.6? Hi all, As I'm not a Mac OS X (or QT) developer by trade I'm not sure how helpful this report will be but here it is anyway. As of 10.5.x ICAGetPropertyData was deprecated (as indicated in the source) and in 10.6 it has been completely removed and replaced. As a result many types and are no longer unavailable and the following functions have broken: void MacICACameraControl::get_image_data(long key, QByteArray&data, bool delete_image); in MacICACameraControl.cpp at line 202 void MacICACameraControl::scan_devices_(void); in MacICA_inventory.cpp at line 39 You also get a large number of "'assert' was not declared in this scope" errors but those are easy to fix bringing total errors down to the 16 "not declared in this scope" errors which are mostly just the snowball effect of missing deprecated types. As I'm currently at work I can't give this much attention to make a patch but I'll try to do what I can. Thanks, Thomas |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hmm... Is is possible that you're camera is set to capture raw (.NEF) images only? The QT toolkit (which is what I use) doesn't display NEF files, so I just skip them in the preview. If that's your problem, what I do is set the camera to capture NEF+JPEG Fine. It's a work-around. It's not intentional, but I've not made a positive effort to prevent it either. It is the way the camera behaves when I issue a PTP standard Capture command. I think the way to handle this for Nikon cameras is to use the Nikon specific capture command which I know exists (libgphoto2 supports it) but I'm not able to find any reasonable description of how that command works. It is, after all, Nikon specific. For that matter, I'd like to also do tethered/time-lapse captures to the camera RAM instead of the flash chip, but I haven't quite worked out how to make that happen either. > For example, if the last photo on my camera is 0100, then I take > seven photos with the Tethered button, the next photo I take with > an untethered camera is numbered 0108. Clicking the "Tethered" or "Time Lapse" button appears to increment the in-camera file counter. I suppose it's arguable whether this is desired or not. I argue that it's undesired as it leads to confusion. For example, if the last photo on my camera is 0100, then I take seven photos with the Tethered button, the next photo I take with an untethered camera is numbered 0108. Where did 0101 through 0107 go? They didn't go anywhere. They correspond to the seven photos that were stored on my computer, but that were numbered whatever was appropriate there (maybe 00008 through 00014). Now I'm confused! I think this behavior is controllable, as a similar program [1] does not exhibit this behavior. Alas, I suck at C++ and can't follow your source code well enough to find the place this might be happening. I'm testing with a Nikon D40. [1] http://www.sofortbildapp.com/ |
