"What is this" - its probably related to some graphics card issue in conjunction with BPT not resetting openGL as it should.
There is nothing you can do about it, but you might try to it the 'space' key in the viewport to maximize/unmaximize it. This usually resets the opengl state.

I don't think this only happens in Maya 2011, but will probably happen in all other maya versions as well.
As previously stated, I am unable to invest any time in changing the way solid-chamfer works, BPT is not supported anymore. I made it open-source for that reason, but don't really expect anyone to figure out my old code.
Hence I can only thank you for taking the initiative here, but cannot help in this case.
