Running Kubuntu 12.04, muon updater can not install barry packages because of headers length:

Hi Franjpr,
This is most likely a sourceforge.net redirection issue. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of control over how sourceforge handles their downloads.
It might also be a temporary thing, although running curl and piping the output to wc -c shows 480 characters.
Are you using a proxy for apt at all? Would you mind posting your apt.conf?
Thanks,
- Chris
Hello
I battled the whole afternoon and evening yesterday due to the same issue.
I finally downloaded most of the .deb-binaries, the Barry desktop panel is loading, I can even browse my BB !
Unfortunately the sync won't work.
"Starting sync for: 26e7f00f (BB)
Discover(): NEXT ERROR: "This engine was not in state initialized: 0"
ROOT CAUSE: "Plugin for format "vcard30" not found."
Sync finished: 26e7f00f (BB)
No more devices to sync."
I fear I didn't unpackage everything in the right order, also that this is not really a barry problem but an opensync one...
Any idea on how I should proceed ?
thanks a lot !
Hi,
As an update on the download issue, I've found out the real cause, and it is a massive Set-cookie: header line in the HTTP header of the download.
I've posted a ticket with sourceforge and hopefully it will be fixed.

The good news is that you can probably workaround this by simply downloading the whole directory of .deb files from sourceforge (for your particular distro and platform) into /var/cache/apt/archives/. This should remove the need to download from sourceforge, and apt can handle the dependencies as usual.
For example, if you are running Debian Squeeze on i386, download all the .deb files from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/barry/files/barry/barry-0.18.3/bmbuild/dists/squeeze/main/binary-i386/
If you are running Ubuntu 12.04 on i386, download all the .deb files from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/barry/files/barry/barry-0.18.3/bmbuild/dists/ubuntu1204/main/binary-i386/
Hope this helps!

Hi cibou57,
I think you're just missing some plugins. Make sure you have installed opensync1-plugin-xmlformat, opensync1-plugin-vformat, opensync1-plugin-file packages.
You might also try the workaround in my previous post, and re-install the barrydesktop package.

Hi Chris,
thanks for your advice. I've just installed the packages
opensync1-plugin-xmlformat, opensync1-plugin-vformat, opensync1-plugin-file
it won't work.
But you're right I think since I get this error when starting barry desktop
"No OpenSync libraries were found. Sync will be unavailable until you install OpenSync version 0.22 or version 0.4x on your system, along with the needed plugins."
I have installed opensync so this is, hmm, strange...
I will give the complete reinstall a try... and give feedback.
