Yes, this is really needed.
But i'm not sure, if the ax25-layer routing stuff should not
be better handled inside the kernel. This affects also
issues like route-learning / path optimization (which is
currently done by ax25rtd, in a very limited and buggy way).
In the past we had some discussions with the kernel-ax25
developers.
Some other jobs, like those ax25ipd does, could also be done
in the kernel.
But all this has been low priority.
