Could I request that the rotate guide be moved to the bottom right-hand corner of the view, and be of the same size as the axes? This would convey exactly the same amount of information, and yet allow me to see my molecule. (The rotate guide show when rotating around a particular atom is just perfect though.)

I bumped up the priority, because this drives me up the walls. I regularly work on inorganic complexes, and I want to be able to see the central part of the molecule. The rotate guide has zero information content. Please move it out of the way or else, for pity's sake, let me turn it off. The zoom guide looks all beat up BTW - I didn't even realise it was supposed to be an edge-on arrow for some time.

Does the size of the rotate look better in 0.9.x?

BTW, if you click on the central atom when rotating, the scale of the guide will be much smaller.

OK - commit 45bff8f takes care of this I think. Please test and reopen if you were hoping for more. The eye candy can be disabled and this is saved across sessions. It is in the navigate tool settings widget. I will be adding more features to this but wanted to implement this feature request first.
