So I downloaded the 3.1.1 binary package for windows and unzipped it where I wanted it. Firstly, I'm linking assimp.lib (32 bit) - I wanted a static link but no matter, I've put the .dll in the right location as well. When I run my program it now says, "The program can't start because assimp.exe is missing from your computer", which is kind-of unusual.
So, stuff changed? Can anyone give me a clue?

Hey people, the bug tracker on this says, "The workaround will be to quickly get out another (bugfix) release to fix it". That was 14th of August. Is there any way you can do a point release to make this happen very soon? I'm kind-of blocked with it at the moment.
If anyone knows a workaround that would be great too.

I have the same problem.
Is anyone able to help resolve this?
Hi,
see https://github.com/assimp/assimp/issues/397 for tracking.
Thanks for the reply. Linked discussions appear to be closed. Does this mean we just need to wait for a new release?

I "solved" this by using Cmake to generate a VS2013 project, building the binaries myself.
