Unattended 4.0 released

Unattended is a system for fully automating the installation of Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, including the OS, hotfixes, and applications. Complete documentation is available. Version 4.0 features a completely reworked boot disk. Two, actually. The traditional boot disk is now based on FreeDOS. There is also a new experimental boot disk using a custom diskless Linux system based on the 2.6.3 kernel. So now you can install Windows using nothing but free software (except for Windows itself).... read more

Unattended 3.0 released

Unattended is a system for fully automating the installation of Windows 2000 and XP workstations, including the OS, hotfixes, and applications. Complete documentation is available at <http://unattended.sourceforge.net/>.

Version 3.0 removes the requirement that the installation share permit anonymous access. This should also be the most stable release yet.

Unattended 2.1 released

Unattended is a system which fully automates the installation of Windows 2000 and XP workstations (sort of like an open-source RIS). Version 2.1 fixes some bugs and knows how to avoid rebooting if the partition table does not change.

By detecting partition table changes, it is now possible in principle to create a truly unattended installation; that is, one with zero human interaction. Maybe in the next release...

Unattended 2.0 released

Unattended is a system which fully automates the installation of Windows 2000 and XP workstations (sort of like an open-source RIS). Version 2.0 features a complete rewrite of the master script in Perl, allowing vastly more flexible local customization.

The new Perl installation script, which runs under DOS, includes a full parser/generator for unattend.txt files. With the new script comes a completely rewritten set of instructions for OS installation. The application installation procedure is unchanged.... read more

Unattended 1.1.0 released

"Unattended" is a system for fully automating the deployment of Windows workstations, using Windows or Unix servers on the back end. Unattended 1.0 released

"Unattended" is a system for fully automating the installation of Windows 2000 and XP workstations. Version 1.0 removes the need for Unix servers and adds support for installing Windows XP, and is the first "production" release.

Many people use imaging technologies (sysprep, Ghost, etc.) to deploy Windows workstations. This is usually a bad idea. Imaging is fine for installing hundreds of workstations with 100% identical hardware, but in most environments, true unattended installation is a superior approach.... read more

"Unattended" project initial release; testers wanted

http://unattended.sourceforge.net/ is a project to enable the unattended installation of Windows workstations (both OS and applications) without relying on Windows servers. The current test release should work out of the box after some site-specific customization.

I am looking for system administrators to try it out and provide feedback. Skilled admins interested in becoming co-developers are welcome, as is anyone who can report problems or make suggestions.
