Pete,

You may want to wait a little while, I'm just about to start some 
initial testing with Steve which will do what Giorgio requires using the 
layout editor as a base.  This covers, full interlocking, block 
reservation and setting the turnouts and Signal Masts appropriately.  It 
also has an entry exit mechanism for station areas, along with automatic 
signalling where required on main lines.
