You're right. (I mentioned, it is a hack)

I agree. This (above, not my hack) should be the implementation in future 
versions of grapher.cgi.

This patch was intended only as a workaround for all who can't wait for this 
functionality, I never wanted the hack getting into "official versions". 
I should have written it in my 1st posting, sorry.
