Hi everyone, I know I haven't been very active in...let me see, something like six months. Like everyone else, I was too busy at work to get anything done. Anyhow, after a meeting with a couple of legal departments from various firms, and having seen demonstrations of proprietary tools used for contract management (check out EMC's Legato WebXtender), I'm even more keen on getting a stable version out. And this is where drupal comes in. For those not familiar with drupal (http://www.drupal.org), it is a modular, highly customizable framework for web development - basically an engine with pluggable modules which can perform almost any task. Featured as part of the hardened core engine are authentication, node management, access rights, form management, database management etc. There is a really developer friendly API available for Drupal with a hooks system which makes it easier to interact with the Drupal core. If anyone's interested in helping out here, it would be great. PHP is kind of a must here - although there is also the question of CSS theming and images. Oh, in case I forgot, Drupal also has a theming engine with lots of functions to make it easier to quickly switch themes and extend existing themes. I figure that using Drupal will make the project a _lot_ more productive as we don't have to deal with stuff like authentication and user-specific access rights. Additional cmapp specific features such as contract management, partner management, full text searching etc can all be added as modules. I'm currently working on a python based script frontend for the tesseract-ocr program, which takes tiffs generated by an additional python module and scans the text into readable .txt files (I'm working on better xml support for this so it's easy to produce OpenOffice documents straight from scanned images). So, if you're still interested, let me know. There are a whole load of things to be done, and this is the best time for suggesting features. I know now for a _fact_ that this will be not just the only open source contract management tool, but also the best! |

Hi everyone, I've been fairly busy with cmappV2 (which is in the CVS repository module cmappV2, by the way) and I think I have a fairly acceptable dbase structure worked out. Smarty is up and running and there are a couple of PHP backend packages with corresponding tpl modules written as well. For anyone checking out the module, the database sql dump is in the dbase directory. The private directory holds the main database access routine (complete with username and password and some access variables like absolute and relative paths). The content directory holds the interesting stuff - the php backend files. All the tpl files are in the content/html directory. To get the scripts working locally, you need to change the variables in the private directory and don't forget to have a look at the libs.inc.php file in the content directory. It shouldn't need editing but I might have forgotten something. The dbase sql dump contains all the tables (currently 23) and some test scenario data. There is a lot to be done here (especially with SQL -> I want to clean up the SQL in the PHP scripts a lot so that most of the overhead is on the MySQL server, and not constantly causing network traffic because of opening and closing sockets. I finished off a routine for adding partners, partner_types and partner_contacts (in this version I split all of these to keep the database sectional) and now I'm looking for anyone who wants to go about writing an import/export routine for vcard (vcf) files - basically, if a user wants to add a new partner_contact, the option should be made available to simply import from an external vcard file. An option should also exist to import all known contacts from external vcards (or one big vcf file). Of course, we can also implement a routine to export our database contact files :) Anyhow, this is just an update to let you know that development is ongoing - I'm pretty happy at the improvement since the first version. Happy New Year's to everyone Hi Greg, I imagine that the file the problem is in is the include/myfunction.php file? It seems as if the mysql_connect function isn't properly defined for you. The way it works is as follows: The include/myfuntion.php file includes() the database/global_variables.inc file, which is created by the install.php file. As this creation is not 100% correct (because of file/directory permissions), you can try bypassing it by setting all the variables by hand in the include/myfunction.php file. In your case you can define the connection in the mysql_connect() function itself -> i.e. overwrite the existing variables: > mysql_connect($server, $username, $password) changes to: mysql_connect('your server', 'your username', 'your password'); This should set you right (remember you might also have to change the mysql_select_dbase() function so that include/myfunction.php selects the correct database - which is the database you chose in install.php). Hope this works for you. By the way, I have to overhaul install.php anyway, to prepopulate the database with some important values. Ciaran |

Hello all, After finally working through some server problems I finally had everything set to get cmapp actually installed. When I did, I got this error Fatal Error: Call to undefined mysql_connect(). It goes on to give the path to the file and the line the problem is on. Tha= t line contains this code mysql_connect($server, $username, $password) Anybody have any ideas. --Greg Dean P.S. Happy New Year's to everyone |

---------- Weitergeleitete Nachricht ---------- Subject: New Database Structure Date: Mittwoch, 21. Dezember 2005 21:49 From: Ciaran Farrell <cia...@so...> To: cma...@li... Hi everyone, it looks like we should decide on what to do with our database structure as soon as possible, as any further development with a shoddy structure is not very smart. There is a poll over at http://www.m4ss.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27 . I would hope that all developers will cast a vote on what to do as soon as possible, so we can either keep going with our old format or start developing a new structure to better suit or development. So, cast your vote on http://www.m4ss.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27 ! Ciaran CMapp Maintainer ------------------------------------------------------- |

Hi everyone, I got a bit done on the timeline feature today - kind of a first draft. The results can be seen on the forum - http://www.m4ss.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=69#69 Like I mentioned on the forum, a couple of relatively serious problems have come to light - particularly with the parse_amendment.php script and I was hoping to get a few "eyes" to check the script. It should be a fairly simple problem like a missing ending brace or something like that. Talk to you soon Ciaran CMapp Maintainer |

Hi all, I created a new file "install.php" in the root directory. This file is used to create a new database, to populate this new database with the appropriate tables and to create the file database/gobal_variables.inc (the file which contains the database access variables and which is included by the all-important include/myfunction.php file). This has a couple of advantages - when the user calls install.php, he/she gets to choose a path (absolute path is entered as default), a server name (localhost is entered as default), a database name (cmapp is entered as default), a username and a password (i.e. the username and password of a MySQL user authorised to CREATE etc.). This means that whoever downloads CMapp should now be able to install it without the hassle of starting PHPMyadmin and trying to dump SQL. However, like I mentioned in the forum (http://www.m4ss.net/forum), I'm getting very strange messages "unable to select database" from some pages but not from others - as the only thing I changed was this install.php file, I find this very strange. If anyone can find the bug here, please post it to the forum! Apart from that, we've got a whole lot of work done and are well on the way towards a stable release. I can't wait to get this out, because afterwards we can start to add really cool features... Remember, to post to the mailing list just send email to cma...@li... - this is appreciated always! Otherwise, if you still haven't signed up for the forum, get on over to http://www.m4ss.net/forum and register! There is already a lot of information there, including the entire developer's correspondence up to now. This is recommended reading for anyone who wants to get a quick insight into the development of CMapp Anyhow, must get back to work! Ciaran CMapp Maintainer |

Hi everyone, all the previous correspondence regarding CMapp development is now available on Jazzo's forum as a sticky topic - you can access it directly here: http://www.m4ss.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2 Apart from that, this topic might also interest some developers: http://www.m4ss.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 Remember, if you're interested in giving a hand, just contact either me cia...@ba... or Jazzo ja...@us... Hope to hear from you soon! Ciaran CMapp Maintainer |

Hi everyone, after discussions, we decided that the Wordpress is more appropriate for spreading the word to non-developers and to CMapp prospective users. For developers, Jazzo has opened up a forum over on http://www.m4ss.net/forum which is based on PhpBB - the forum features are more suited to what we need. So have a look over there and please do register!!!! We're looking for help at the moment - so for anyone registered on the mailing list - be you PHP/MySQL developer or Graphic Artist or website developer - we need you! You can get in touch with us by replying to this mailing list or just visit the Developer's Forum over at http://www.m4ss.net/forum and post a message - we'll help you get started. Thanks for reading Ciaran CMapp Maintainer |

Hi everyone, just a quick note to let you all know that there is now a developer's blog available at http://cmapp.wordpress.com - this should be a great opportunity for developers to exchange information and generally, to see what's going on at a glance. Jazzo and I have been doing a whole lot of work on the CVS repository (many thanks, again, to Jazzo for his help with CVS). The CMapp app is now pretty much ready for developer interaction. To download CMapp by anonymous CVS enter this at your command line: cvs -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/cmapp login cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/cmapp co -P cmapp cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/cmapp checkout cmapp Developers need to change the pserver to ext and also need to have SSH properly set up on the system. If you need help with this, just email the mailing list, or head on over to the forum. Ciaran |
