An abstraction layer for real-time to prevent module lock-in
Primus, the creator god of transformers but now also known as universal wrapper for real-time frameworks. There are a lot of real-time frameworks available for Node.js and they all have different opinions on how real-time should be done. Primus provides a common low level interface to communicate in real-time using various real-time frameworks. Effortless switching between real-time frameworks by changing one single line of code. No more API rewrites needed when your project requirements change, the framework gets abandoned or simply breaks down. Built-in reconnect, it just works. The reconnect is controlled by a randomised exponential back-off algorithm to reduce server stress. Ristretto
A high performance memory-bound Go cache
Ristretto is a fast, concurrent cache library built with a focus on performance and correctness. It all started with needing a memory-bound, concurrent Go cache in Dgraph. We looked around for a solution, but we couldn’t find a great one. We then tried using a sharded map, with shard eviction to release memory, which caused us memory issues. We then repurposed Groupcache’s LRU, using mutex locks for thread safety. After having it around for a year, we noticed that the cache suffered from severe contention. A commit to remove that cache caused our query latency to dramatically improve by 5-10x. In essence, our cache was slowing us down! We concluded that the concurrent cache story in Go is broken and must be fixed. In March, we wrote about the State of Caching in Go, mentioning the problem of databases and systems requiring a smart memory-bound cache which can scale to the multi-threaded environment Go programs find themselves in. -

SentenceTransformers is a Python framework for state-of-the-art sentence, text and image embeddings. The initial work is described in our paper Sentence-BERT: Sentence Embeddings using Siamese BERT-Networks. You can use this framework to compute sentence / text embeddings for more than 100 languages. These embeddings can then be compared e.g. with cosine-similarity to find sentences with a similar meaning. This can be useful for semantic textual similar, semantic search, or paraphrase mining. The framework is based on PyTorch and Transformers and offers a large collection of pre-trained models tuned for various tasks. Further, it is easy to fine-tune your own models. Our models are evaluated extensively and achieve state-of-the-art performance on various tasks. Further, the code is tuned to provide the highest possible speed. -

Next.js-like framework for server-rendered React apps
Next.js is awesome. However, its routing system isn't for me. IMHO React Router is a better foundation upon which such a framework should be built, and that's the goal here. Routes are just components and don't / should not have anything to do with folder structure. Static route configs are fine. Next.js's getInitialProps was/is a brilliant idea. Route-based code-splitting should come for free or be easy to opt into. Route-based transitions/analytics/data loading/preloading etc., should either come for free or be trivial to implement on your own. After.js enables Next. js-like data fetching with any React SSR app that uses React Router. You can quickly bootstrap an SSR React app with After.js using Razzle. While Razzle is not required, this documentation assumes you have the tooling setup for an isomorphic React application. Refer to Razzle's docs for tooling, babel, and webpack customization. -
