mp3splt is a free utility to split mp3, ogg vorbis and FLAC files without decoding, selecting begin/end time; if file is an album, you can get splitpoints automatically from internet or a local cue, cddb file. It also splits Mp3Wrap and AlbumWrap archives. Supports splitting and trimming by silence detection. For mp3 files, both ID3v1 and ID3v2 are supported using original tags or user defined tags.

Shairport Sync adds multi-room capability with audio synchronization. Shairport Sync is an AirPlay 1 audio player. Switch to the development branch for a version with limited AirPlay 2 functionality. Shairport Sync plays audio streamed from iTunes, iOS, Apple TV and macOS devices and AirPlay sources such as Quicktime Player and OwnTone, among others. Audio played by a Shairport Sync-powered device stays synchronized with the source and hence with similar devices playing the same source. In this way, synchronized multi-room audio is possible for players that support it, such as iTunes and the macOS Music app. Shairport Sync runs on Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD. It does not support AirPlay video or photo streaming. Shairport Sync offers full audio synchronization, a feature of AirPlay that previous implementations do not provide. Full audio synchronization means that audio is played on the output device at exactly the time specified by the audio source.

Playmidi is a web and curses and SDL-based MIDI file player for Linux and MacOS and Chrome (via Web MIDI and Web Audio apis). All recent development has moved to https://github.com/nlaredo/playmidi It supports software rendering of midi files via SDL audio and can also output midi events to external midi devices (in time with SDL audio soft synth) via both alsa sequencer api (linux) and coremidi api (osx). Math-based synthesis (when no sf2 is loaded and no external midi output is set) is planned to evolve over time to support most of the features found in a minimoog voyager, and wavetable based sf2 support is expected to evolve to properly emulate all the features of a roland sc88 (but not there yet). Not all sf2 files are yet fully supported, but currently most development in the git tree has happened with one you can find via google search called Scc1t2.sf2. It provides a good starting point for those without external midi hardware
