Hi, I wrote about this piggybacking another thread, but that issue might've been different. Here's what happened: I decrypted a system drive that had been successfully encrypted for months, because Windows Refresh wouldn't work when it was encrypted. After Refreshing Windows, I attempted to encrypt the same drive. During the testing phase (right after creating a rescue disk), the system became unusable. I enter the correct password, it says, 'Success' but never proceeds to boot Windows. Escaping...
Hello, this is happening with my system. Booting the testing phase on a system disk encryption doesn't go past the 'Success' message. Pressing esc, inputting wrong password doesn't work. It says 'Cannot find windows boot loader'. Using the Rescue disc - decrypt option says 'Done', but doesn't change anything. I tried using the patch Idris posted above. But I can't boot into it. There's a BIOS message saying the security policy doesn't allow it. This was on a newly refreshed Windows 10 system, I didn't...
There are multiple unresolved posts about users losing access to drives, possibly due to header corruption, after changing the password. Advisable to have a backup drive or at least keep the header backup file separately (which, judging from the above post, would restore the original password).
Hi Frank, could you explain the solution? This sounded similar to an issue posted by myself and others.
I believe I have also had the same problem as others in this thread. Until reading these I assumed I had just stupidly forgotten the new password soon after changing it, but now I highly doubt that. There seems possibly to be a pattern of issues when users change the volume's password without de- and re-encrypting. A few details: I don't use auto-mount, so that is not the issue/fix. I have tried decrypting with the option 'Use backup header embedded in volume if available' checked. I get the error...
Hi, I posted about losing my password to a VC encrypted disk a few months ago. I haven't recovered it, and probably will never recover the large amount of data on the disk. I don't say that to ask for pity, just to offer a user experience that might not be extremely rare. I lost the password right after changing it. It was my (huge) mistake to do that. But I want to offer my perspective on how VC deals with the password creation process. When I used it, I initially chose something I'd easily remember...
Hello, I've been using VeraCrypt for a few years now. I have to start by thanking the developer for their work in making an indispensible tool. Recently, I thought I should change my password on an encrypted volume comprising an entire partition of a non-booting disk. I did so, and I remember the process I went through in choosing a password (taking a line of text from a nearby box). Once the password was changed, I did not mount it right away. An hour or so later, I attempted to mount it, and the...
