I'm not familiar with texmac's, but know it's best not to add to the repositories, even with the debian based multimedia ones. Think if you want to experiment and test the water, go for it. I keep a spare machine and drives to test when I'm not sure, but can't predict what could happen the next day. I don't know what Window Manager WM you are using with Crowz, either it be JWM, Fluxbox or Openbox? Please understand that none of these have automatic menus where it just shows up. You have to edit the new applications into the menu manually and refresh the menu. Crowz is built on Devuan base and non-free is installed in the repositories. Yes, all security patches that is present with Devuan are included.

Have not used refractatools and not familiar, can always try and experiment.
