If I use libtiff I can create custom tags that have ids higher than 65000 using the TIFFMergeFieldInfo api and I will be able to see those tags in application like Gimp in the metadata viewer with their id as the identifier in the Exif tab. I did not see anything similar like this here. trying to create a tag and giving in a tag that is not from the default Exif list, I was not able to see it in an external application like gimp so I did not know if the tag was added or not.
