On my second attempt of doing a FULL DRIVE ENCRYPTION of the OS was successful. I am not sure if it is because one of the following? Installed (VeraCrypt_Setup_x64_1.26.7.msi) instead of (VeraCrypt Setup 1.26.7.exe). Did not select "YES" for "Encryption of Host Protected Area". Selected "No". Used a different SSD. It did not give the same issue as the above which I was hoping to replicate to understand why it failed.

So here is an update in case someone else runs into this situation. Luckily, I do have a backup of this drive but there is 10% of it that has not been backed up. Good practice for me is that I always do a comparison and take a screen print of the differences that are not backed up between the two drives. In this case, I knew exactly what I needed to recover. Fortunately, Recuva has been able to recovered 85% of the 10% (not backed up) which is about 200 GB. Mostly are old games. During those files...

I was able to get to the file structure using Recuva after 3 hours of scanning. Still clicking and not able to recover the files yet, except for one file (jpg).

Thanks for your reply. Although i may not be able to save the os, I know how to extract the data which is the most important thing. I usually save a copy image of the os and it takes me only an hour to restore everything, including system encryption of the os. I was just hoping to save time and learn to resolve this "BCD" thing if I ever run into it again.

"Create the boot Rescue Disk and decrypt the system encryption." What other functions does the Rescue Disk have? From your post, it decrypts and also restore the bootloader. Anything else? BTW... I have not used the rescue disk yet but I am able to still get to the VeraCrypt password screen and also able to enter my password. It is right after that I get the BCD message from my original post. I will use the Rescue Disk as you mentioned. Just thought I provide more details.

Thanks for the reply and will do what you have shared. BTW... I am always on the latest version of VeraCrypt. I believe this BCD issue was caused by something else not VeraCrypt. Since you have been on this forum for a long time, have you seen BCD issues often? I have only found one other thread: https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/general/thread/85fa295961/

I have been using TrueCrypt/VeraCrypt for over 10 years. I have never had any issues with it until today. I was able to recover all of my data which is the good news. basically, I removed the ssd and attached to another computer using an usb enclosure. I was able to recover everything since I usually save to one master folder. I cannot get the OS to boot at this point and keep getting the message: "Recovery Your PC needs to be repaired The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information....

Hi, Issue 01: The XML issue has been resolved for the 64 bit version but there are no compiled version for 2.16.3 (32 bit version). Issue 02: When copied a 15 GB file, after it is done, still cannot access Winmerge as it gives the "thinking" icon. Works fine with the 32 bit version but still not the new 2.16.3 (64 bit version). I am on Windows 7 64 bit. Update: after 2nd attempt, 2.16.2 (32 bit version) takes only 1.5 minute while 2.16.3 (64 bit version) takes 5 minutes. 64 bit version finally give...

I am on Windows 7and when I boot up before doing a system encryption, it works fine. Once it passed the bios, it takes couple of a seconds before the Windows logo appears. However if I do a system encryption (with Veracrypt) on the system and afterward when I enter the password (Veracrypt), it takes about 30 seconds before the Windows logo appears. I had System Favorite Volumes mounting issues prior to the release of version 1.21. For me, that has been resolved with the release of version 1.21. So thank you for fixing this. However, I just thought that I share one thing that I have noticed in case someone else is experiencing the same. This may/maynot be VeraCrypt related. Since the upgrade to version 1.21 on release day, my PC has frozen twice when moving a large file (in the gb size) between two drives with Serpent. Again, it may not be related...

Mounir, I have reverted back to 1.20 Beta. When I have time today/tomorrow, I will reimage and try 1.21 RC again. I did open Windows Event Viewer and look for events whose source is "VeraCryptSystemFavorites". I did not see any errors for 1.20 Beta. A little bit more digging on this. 1.20 Beta I have reimaged my OS back to a clean slate and installed VeraCrypt 1.20 Beta. I went through my normal routine and encrypted the System OS. After the encryption of the OS completed, I rebooted and mounted a drive and then added it to System Favorite. I rebooted and it worked. 1.21 RC Windows seems to take a bit longer to login after entering the Windows password. It seems VeraCrypt is looking for the System Favorite drives. Samething is happening to me as Nilsen. And this is on a clean install. Usually when VeraCrypt comes out with a new build, I reimage my OS back to a clean slate. After the reimage process, I install the new VerCrypt build and starts the system encryption process. I mount and then add System Favorite as normal. However, this time will not auto mount after a reboot. Nothing has changed in my process for the last 3 builds. I tried to downgrade back to 1.20 beta but it will not allow me unless I reimage...
