@idrassi Tool suggestions to reproduce the error in Win10 are given already in the thread, e.g. https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/general/thread/f6e7f623d0/?limit=25#5394 SSD disk write tool "H2testw" to produce a large load on drive -> Disk driver uses virtual RAM to cache disk writes -> Page file expands -> Decrease system load near idling-> Pagefile eventually decreases -> system freezes For a 16GB size RAM the lockup is around if pagefile expands over 20GB and decreases again over...

@idrassi said multiple times that he is not interested to fix this error in recent Windows 10 versions. So what else can we do? Go back to stone age without fast NVMe drives? Move on!* Use Bitlocker offline and from command line, save the recovery key and do not use a MS account. Otherwise, by default with the GUI wizard your key gets automatically uploaded to Onedrive. Safe system encryption in Windows is dead.

So to make a summary Full system encryption Affected systems: Windows 10 1903 and afterwards Affected component: NVMe system drive Cause: Changes in pagefile.sys results in stutter or complete lock-up Influencing factors: Your size of RAM and if memory compression is enabled. Memory usage of applications. Because this directly relates to how often you reach the pagefile.sys limit. No freeze in safe boot, as pagefile is fixed here. No freeze if moving pagefile to a slow HDD drive. Fix: None. Bug likely...

A virtual machine does not cover every usecase to be identical to an actual machine. Virtual RAM is not connected to physical RAM, VMWare has its own memory manager to compress it for reduced host memory footprint Virtual disk space is mapped to files by driver, so timing is different and acess is filtered * Virtual disks use virtual SCSI disk controller, this is a different protocol than common NVMe for native SSDs Vera Crypt must have awareness of different protocols, it's not a simple block device....

There is an easier method to reproduce: - Use a tool to have high load on the drive, e.g h2testw https://www.heise.de/download/product/h2testw-50539 Originally it is intendet for checking real capacity of flash drives, but also useful to write a test pattern to your SSD free space. Open, check "English" and enter directory for writing test files and the amount, e.g. 300 000 MB - Start Prime95 and do a stress test, e.g. 12 threads and blend In Win10 1903 or 1909 and Veracrypt encrypted system drive...

Things tried that are no solution 1) The flaw is in Win10 memory management. So what is the biggest difference compared to Win7 that run flawlessly --> Memomry compression So I disabled memory compression in elevated powershell "get-MMAgent" and "Disable-MMAgent -mc ", reboot --> This worsens the situation. You now get a freeze in Prime95 after seconds! 2) Maybe the only factor is the pagefile? I preallocated a huge 24GB pagefile via system control panel. Now the freeze was not observed in the writing,...
