A pause/resume operation in the format dialog would be useful for modern removable devices which generate a lot of heat during intensive access. With USB3 flash devices of 256G+, some of them get quite hot after many GB of constant write accesses, which can be a risk to the device or USB port. It would be nice to be able to pause the wipe/format operation for a minute or two about half way through to allow everything to cool down.
