Dear Rainer, thanks for the information. So I guess, it's possess your soul in patience, and hope that PSL Reduce can be made working one of these days. Sincerely, Tilda
Dear Arthur, thanks for your reply and your ongoing work of making reduce fully macOS-compatible. The issue that I reported in reply to Eberhard's message concerns only redpsl. csl-reduce as of snapshot_6866(64?) works fine within TeXmacs. Tilda
Dear Eberhard, thanks for your fast reply and uploading the fix with snapshot_6866.dmg. After installing, I noticed that there might be a misnomer as both psl and csl are signed rev 6864. The apps bootstrapreduce, csl, and reduce run fine. Calling redcsl for the first time yielded an error message libc++abi: terminating due to uncaught exception of type std::__1::system_error: mutex lock failed: Invalid argument ~~~ SIGNAL ~~~: SIGABRT yet this did not reoccur. Wonder why. Also, I expected to remain...
Dear developers, thanks for making the new snapshot available. The other day I've upgraded from snapshot_6658.dmg to snapshot_6860.dmg . Yet the recent upload seems to be seriously flawed. Dear Arthur, Eberhard Schruefer has already done the job of adapting your TeXmacs plugin for the use of more recent version of Reduce. See, [(https:/https://sourceforge.net/p/reduce-algebra/discussion/899363/thread/b197a4ea57/?limit=25#6fd4/)] . And it basically works out of the box – redcsl runs smoothly within TeXmacs. Thanks for putting me on the right track. Kind regards, Tilda
Dear Arthur, thanks for your fast reply and the detailed information concerning the severe difficulties of making PSL run on Silicon computers. Yet, the suggested work-around sounds promising. I will try to adapt your CSL version of the reduce plugin in a month or so, when I have a bit more time at hand, and possibly discuss this issue on the TeXmacs forum. As the your files are GPLed, I assume I can share them there. At any rate, I'll keep you informed. Kind regards, Tilda
Dear developpers, I installed the Reduce-snapshot_6658.dmg on an iMac M3 running under macOS 14.5. Unfortunately, I cannot run Reduce from within TeXmacs as their reduce-plugin relies on redpsl. Having read up on a discussion here on this forum [(https://https://sourcefor ge.net/p/reduce-algebra/discussion/899365/thread/78d7c6c9e3/)], I understand that getting PSL running on Apple Silicon computers would require a serious redesign of the memory handling of PSL. So I wonder if this redesign is considered...
Robert, I can not confirm your results. Running draw2d did not have an impact on the output of the 2nd plot2d run. I'm on macOS 10.15.7 and a ran your commands under Maxima 5.47.0 using Lisp SBCL 2.4.0, both, in a shell and within a TeXmacs 2.1.4 maxima session. On my MacPorts based system, plot2d outputs into an AquaTerm window, for reasons I do not understand. Wheras draw2d outputs correctly into a wxt-terminal, which is my standard gnuplot 5.4.8 terminal as configured in ~.gnuplot.
Dear Jeffrey, thanks for your in-depth instructions on how to setup Homebrew locally and install Reduce. You got me convinced to give Homebrew a go. As it can peacefully coexist with MacPorts on supported systems, I guess this will have to wait till I replace my old macintoshes in a year or two. Cheers Tilda
Dear Eberhard, thank you very much for your work. I installed the legacy-snapshot_6550.dmg on macOS 10.15.7, and it seems to be working fine: both all the csl apps and psl when called from within a TeXmacs session. I guess it will probably also run on macOS 10.13.6. I will let you know if it doesn't. Cheers Tilda
Dear Jeffrey, thanks for your suggestions. I have MacPorts installed on my computers and quite happy with it. I am a bit hesitant to install homebrew in addition to that. I'm not sure if it really is a good idea to have the two different package managers on one system. Cheers Tilda
Dear Arthur, thanks for your fast reply and both the detailed eplanations as well as the instructions on how to compile reduce from sources. Yet, at the moment I do not feel brave enough to do so on my own. I noticed that there is an older version of Reduce (2021-11-19) on MacPorts. I asked Mark Brethen, their maintainer, if there are plans to update the port to the latest Snapshot. If so, this might be good news for Reduce users working on older macOS computers. Cheers Tilda
Dear Developers, thanks for your recent upgrade of Reduce. Unfortunately the most recent Snapshot_6547.dmg as of 2023-03-08 does not run on macOS 10.15.7 and probably also not on macOS 10.13.6 anymore. So I wonder, if support for these systems has ended or if the lastest version(s) of Reduce will still be made available for these "legacy" systems, as was the case with up tp Snapshot_6339.dmg. Cheers Tilda
Different results for integration in Maxima 5.45.1 and 5.46.0
Dear Rainer, thank you for your helpful comments. Implementing an xyplane option would be a nice feature to have. Tilda
Thanks for the hints, Rainer. I've tried them and they work fine. Yet, your answer raises some questions. Are the x=(-2 .. 2)/96 and y=(-2 .. 2)/96 instructions in your code equivalent to gnuplot(set,isosamples,96); or gnuplot(set,samples,96); or both in mine? How would you rewrite gnuplot(set, xyplane,"at -0.6"); in your code ? Why do you suggest letting Reduce do the as much work as possible. Is it because it can evaluate (more demanding) functions better than gnuplot? Why has the plot form your...
Thanks for the clarification, Rainer. You 've been a tremendous help! For those on the forum interested in further enhancements may just try this one: load_package gnuplot; plotreset; gnuplot(set,isosamples,96); gnuplot(set,samples,96); gnuplot(set,xrange,"[-2:2]"); gnuplot(set,yrange,"[-2:2]"); gnuplot(set,view,"45,135"); gnuplot(set,hidden3d); gnuplot(set,pm3d); gnuplot(set, key,"off"); gnuplot(set, xyplane,"at -0.6"); gnuplot(set, title,"""Exponential Function"""); gnuplot(splot,exp(-(x^2+y^2))*cos(x/4)*sin(y)*cos(2*(x^2+y^2)));...
I have some questions on direct gnuplot-calls in general and some on specific calls in particular. Does the Reduce interface to gnuplot allow for any gnuplot command or just a subset? Where can I find more information on the syntax beyond the gnuplot section in the manual? Some calls seems to be working straight, others produce error messages, e.g when running load_package gnuplot; plotreset; on trplot; gnuplot(set, isosamples 40); gnuplot(set, xrange [-2:2] ); gnuplot(set, yrange [-2:2] ); gnuplot(splot,exp(-(x^2+y^2))*cos(x/4)*sin(y)*cos(2*(x^2+y^2))...
Thanks for the fast reply, Rainer. That really solved the problem. Tilda
I'm currently working with Reduce (Free PSL version, revision 5595), 17-Jan-2021) from within a TeXmax (2.1) Reduce session on OSX 13.7. Symbolic and numerical calculations work fine. So does gnuplotting by using the plot(...)-command. However, when I want to call gnuplot directly, e.g. load_package gnuplot; on trplot; gnuplot(set, polar); gnuplot(set, noparametric); gnuplot(plot,x*sin x); plotshow; I get the following error message: exit if(strstrt(GPVAL_TERMINALS,"aqua")!=0)set terminal aqua;else...
