Thanks, good to know that that is not my mistake failing with freedict. That dict provided seems to be good enough. One question left: As a KDE application, one can remove/move the toolbar out of the window, but there is still the status bar at the bottom. Can i somehow turn this off in order to get a minimalistic program window? Maybe a good idea to put that option in the prefs.

After several restarts of qtrans and repeatedly entered the paths it now works with the basic english dict. I don't know if i'll ever need morewords from another dict, so i'll stick with this for now. Finally i have a proper replacement for the excellent (but long dead) ksteak. Thanks for your support.

Aaah, just recognized the files under Home/dic-babylon/001. But now it doesn't read the dicts, even not with EngtoGer.dic.zip (as /usr/local/share/dictd/EngtoGer.dic) supplied there and removed the former babylon file with error: Could not open the dics! And shouldn't qtrans support *.index files ?

just found it in ActionI18N.py. But i think it would be nice for all the other users not to have to edit a file in an LTS version. Maybe an AppImage would be a good compromise for compatibility across the many Linux-Distributions .
