I need to restore an image to a hard drive, but the target computer is not at my location. Can I just mount the HD in any old computer I've got in the office & as long as I boot from the Clonezilla CD & once restored, never boot off of the new HD, until its in the target machine, will this work? If not. any advice appreciated! Thanks

I do work with point of sale systems & have used Clonezilla to create images that are used to restore to new computers as we need them & recently had an issue. I was trying to restore an image, that I created using the latest version of Clonezilla's boot disk. but had an older version of the boot disk & it would not work. Once I got another copy of that latest disk, all went as expected, but now I'm wondering if that disk is 'backward compatible' & will be able to restore images created with an older...

I have an image that was created from a 500GB HD & cannot get it to restore to a 250GB drive. I have tried going into the advanced settings & picking the options there & have had it work in the past, but it's just not happening today. Is there a way I can prepare the drive before cloning it, so it will appear as a smaller drive when restoring? My ultimate goal here is to move the contents of a 500GB IDE drive to a 2580GB SSD. Thanks!

I need to ship out a replacement HD for a point of sale terminal, but don't have an identical computer to do this on. Is there a way to restore an image to a blank HD this way? If I put HD in an old Dell desktop, boot off of my DVD or USB & restore to that new HD, will it work when replacing in the computer with bad HD?

That one worked as expected, thanks!

Looking to move my Win 10 installation to a bigger SSD & am having a problem. I DL'd the clonezilla-live-2.7.1-22-amd64.iso & used Rufus to create a bootable USB drive. When going into BIOS, this drive shows with a exclamation point beside it & even if moving to the top of the boot order, will not boot from it. Do I need to enable legacy boot until the job is done & then change back to UEFI when finished & have new SSD in place?

Is there anyway to tell what OS is being used in an image file? Thanks-

I sell a lot of POS systems, the majority of them on Optiplex 7010s & have a standing image that I restore to a computer, as needed. I need to send a replacement HD out for one of these, but don't have a 7010 to use to restore an image to, so I am wondering if I can plug a HD into a caddy & restore the image to that HD? Also, would I be able to take an imaged HD & import that as a VM under Hyper-V? Thanks!
