As for your configuration, i would choose two 4GB disks for parity, partition the 8TB into two 4GB parts and add the first as snapraid data and use the second half as temp space or something like that. You might be tempted to use both halves of the 8TB disk as snapraid data...

You should consider having a backup. 3x 12TB disks or a bunch of tapes should do the trick.
